Calling All Nonprofits!

This is a 24-hour creative marathon where volunteers come together to provide design, marketing, and strategic services for nonprofits.

This event is part of AIGA Design for Good. Due to COVID, this year’s event will be held virtually. Although we won’t be in the same space this year, we will try and make the best out of it by collaborating over zoom and playing games to keep us energized and focused throughout the night!

Together we can ignite, accelerate, and amplify design-driven social change.

Can you help out Gompers?

Prior to COVID-19, Gompers served 500 students and adults with disabilities with a Private Day School, Adult Day Program (DTA) and Employment Services (ES) at locations in Peoria, Glendale and Phoenix. As we approach our 75th anniversary, our mission as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit continues to transform local lives for the better with unique programming and experiences.

On September 14, 2020, Gompers welcomed back 60+ adult members and 50 drivers and staff to Adult Day Program (DTA) at our Phoenix and Peoria locations after 5 months of virtual services. Employment Services offers group supported employment in partnership with 15 local businesses across the valley, from Peoria to Mesa. Our ability to re-open and stay open is largely due to our work with HealthyVerify. In collaboration, we developed a re-opening plan, staff training and health and safety protocols that are certified in accordance with all Federal, State and Local guidelines. These safety measures require us to operate program rooms at a reduced capacity of 45%.

In order to continue services for all the individuals we supported before building closure, Gompers needs additional space and is looking for opportunities to partner with local business that have unused space. Please contact mbotterbusch@gompers.org if you can help!

Home Instead Senior Care

We are Scott and Vicki Castleman and we are thrilled to be the new owners of Home Instead Senior Care in Sun City/Peoria!  In July, we moved to Arizona from Nebraska.   Hello Heat Wave!   Vicki has worked at the Home Instead Global Headquarters in Omaha, NE for the past 11 years—most recently serving in a senior leadership role for the network.  She has many years of experience working in franchise offices and knowing the expectations of leading a team for a brand leader like Home Instead!   She is excited to bring her knowledge and experience to the office in Sun City to provide outstanding service, great communication and an overall excellent experience for everyone we come in contact with.    Scott has held jobs in manufacturing, technology and real estate in his professional past.  He continues to own and manage rental properties and real estate in Nebraska.  He is devoting his time and attention to be a full-time owner to the Home Instead business along with Vicki.   Business ownership was the next step in our personal and professional lives.  We have two college age boys that are finishing college in Nebraska-GO BIG RED!   We have strong family values and enjoy spending time together, but also appreciate that our children are creating their independence as well.

Vicki was introduced to Home Instead when her mother became a CAREGiver after retirement. Through those stories, Vicki changed careers and joined the Global Headquarters of Home Instead in 2009. We both recognize what a blessing CAREGivers are, and we appreciate that our own mother helped to shape that understanding and appreciation of caring for seniors. We aim to bring that appreciation and value to our business.

Not a stranger to Sun City, Vicki spent her youth visiting her Grandpa Chase who moved here in the early 1970s. He lived here until his death in 1984so this is a special place and connection to our family. It was the connection to the Chase family in Sun City that became the namesake for our business entity Sun Chase Care LLC, dba Home Instead Senior Care. We are genuinely interested in enriching the lives of seniors and the families in Sun City & Peoria.

Why We Endorse a NO on Prop 208

We have 18 days until the election and need your help to defeat this devastating proposition.

Ways to help today:

  1. Send an email to your network & members: You may be thinking – “I’ve already done that” - which is great and much appreciated, but the reality is multiple touches are needed to ensure the information is getting through.  As such, it would be great if you share another email with your network today. We have drafted one below to help, but please feel free to edit for your purposes.
  2. Share on social media: Your organization is a respected voice for your network, share the facts on your channels to ensure your followers see. We have attached various social media graphics you can use on your channels.
  3. Give your post a boost: We know due to the pandemic resources are tight, which is why passing the largest tax increase in Arizona history is such a bad idea. If you have the means, consider boosting one of your No on 208 Facebook posts. Did you know that just $200 can get you as many as 10,000 views! Those are views from voters that will hear directly from the respected voices, like yours, in their communities. If you are new to boosted posts and need help setting up, we are here to help, we can walk you through the steps to get started!
  4. Make Calls: If you or others are interested to make calls for the Prop 208 opposition please sign up today! It’s effortless, and you can call from anywhere as long as you have access to a cell phone. We have been getting very positive feedback from voters and with your help we can reach more. Please contact Boaz Witbeck - bwitbeck@afphq.org or Tori Holderbach - tholderbach@afphq.org to get started.

Lastly, in case you missed it, we wanted to share some recent No on Prop 208 news from around the state may be helpful to share with your network through your channels:

Thank you again for all your help! Let’s not let off the gas from now until Election Day and together we can stop Prop 208.
