2020 Events Update

2020 EVENTS UPDATE

This year Covid has allowed us to explore the digital opportunities that Zoom has to offer as we have transitioned several of our event series to virtual. We will continue to use Zoom as we finish out 2020 for our weekly events: Coffee for Closers, Marketing Monday, Women 4 Women, and Percolate Peoria.

We have decided to take a pause in our monthly Networking Breakfast for the month of January.

We plan to re-engage our Networking Breakfast event as we move into 2021. We want to bring you prominent community leaders and create a space where you can network with one another as business leaders and mingle over breakfast. Until we know what 2021 will bring, we hope that you will continue to join us on Zoom weekly and take part in learning ways to increase sales, market your business, and interact with other Chamber Members.

Blood Donors Needed - Virtual Blood Drive

This year, more than ever, is a time to give thanks for good health. Can you give a blood donation and share your good health with a patient in the hospital? Plasma from those who’ve recovered from COVID-19, known as convalescent plasma, contains antibodies that could be used to treat patients with an active, severe COVID-19 case and give them an extra boost to fight their illness.

Wondering if you have COVID-19 antibodies? Vitalant is testing all blood donations for antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, to help identify potential donors who could give convalescent plasma. Healthy donors may donate and will receive test results in their online account within two weeks.

As a bonus.. you'll get free pizza from Streets of New York!

Can you help out Gompers?

Prior to COVID-19, Gompers served 500 students and adults with disabilities with a Private Day School, Adult Day Program (DTA) and Employment Services (ES) at locations in Peoria, Glendale and Phoenix. As we approach our 75th anniversary, our mission as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit continues to transform local lives for the better with unique programming and experiences.

On September 14, 2020, Gompers welcomed back 60+ adult members and 50 drivers and staff to Adult Day Program (DTA) at our Phoenix and Peoria locations after 5 months of virtual services. Employment Services offers group supported employment in partnership with 15 local businesses across the valley, from Peoria to Mesa. Our ability to re-open and stay open is largely due to our work with HealthyVerify. In collaboration, we developed a re-opening plan, staff training and health and safety protocols that are certified in accordance with all Federal, State and Local guidelines. These safety measures require us to operate program rooms at a reduced capacity of 45%.

In order to continue services for all the individuals we supported before building closure, Gompers needs additional space and is looking for opportunities to partner with local business that have unused space. Please contact mbotterbusch@gompers.org if you can help!

State Farm Stadium

Home to the Arizona Cardinals Football Club (NFL), the annual Fiesta Bowl, and numerous other sports and entertainment events and activities, State Farm Stadium has garnered notable recognition in its brief history including being named 'Event Site of the Year' by Event Solutions Magazine in 2007, Best NFL Facility by Sports Business Journal and Sports Business Daily in 2006 and 2007, NFL's best playing surface in 2008 and Best New Venue of the 2000s by SportsIllustrated.com.

Delivering a world-class experience for fans, event organizers and participants, the stadium's innovative approach to sports facility design incorporates the first retractable natural grass playing surface in North America and the first completely retractable roof operating at an incline. Will you support Peoria Unified's students and teachers?

Greetings from the Peoria Education Foundation!

As 2020 wraps up we are willing to make the following three assumptions:

  1. You’ve had more than your fill of virtual meetings and events.
  2. As always, you care deeply about the future leaders, workers and citizens in our classrooms and the educators who inspire them every day.
  3. You don’t need the Peoria Education Foundation to put on a fancy dinner for you to know how much your support means to students and teachers in the Peoria School District.

Don’t get us wrong:  We’d really love to be rubbing elbows and catching up, but look at the upsides!  The foundation is putting all its current resources into scholarships and grants, not putting on a party.  You don’t have to buy a new outfit or a new pair of shoes (OK, maybe that’s not an upside), and you don’t have to arrange for a babysitter on a school night.

Life goes on, and for many deserving students, the dream for the next stage in their lives is higher education.  They need the help of our Foundation and you to open those doors.

Last year the Foundation provided more than $50,000 to 32 graduating seniors who excel at community service or have endured extraordinary challenges, and $32,914 to 20 innovative educators who go the extra mile to make learning deeper and more engaging.  We launched our Emergency Needs program, which allows for students’ critical needs to be fixed on the spot, and we started our new scholarship for students who are pursuing careers working with others with special needs.  Our goal is to match last year’s giving this year, especially since we know that so many of our students’ families are facing financial hardship right now.

Please know that we wish we could be enjoying your company and showing you a good time, and we certainly will again.  But for now, we are asking that you support our kids and teachers as if you were all dressed up, holding a glass with a tiny umbrella sticking out of it, and waving a bidder’s paddle wildly through the air.  Going to a party feels great.  Helping kids and teachers feels even better. So this year, we’re giving you your night back and we figure that’s worth about $455!

  • New outfit $75
  • Babysitter $60
  • Raffle tickets $50
  • Silent auction item $150
  • Drinks $20
  • Gift to the Foundation $100

We hope you’ll consider giving what you would have spent to our students and stuff in need.

Here’s how to give:

You can mail your tax deductible, year-end donation to Peoria Education Foundation, P.O. Box 5544, Peoria, AZ 85385 or visit our website to make an impact for our students and staff.

Thank you for your support of the Peoria Education Foundation and the students and teachers we serve.
