A Moment with ‘The Ambassador’
From his childhood in Lebanon, to his adult life in Canada and finally the United States one thing has remained constant for Vartan Seferian – his passion for fine cigars. He has brought that same passion to his work with Ambassador, transforming a life long love affair with cigars into a thriving business, establishing Ambassador as the premier purveyor of fine cigars in the valley.
Recently Vartan took a few moments to sit down and discuss cigars, Ambassador and fine living.
What is the significance of the name ‘Ambassador’?
Before opening the store I was sitting with my family talking about the name. We were throwing names around and my daughter Christine said “Ambassador”. Once she said that we thought about it and decided it was perfect. An Ambassador is someone who represents something, usually a country, but I wanted to be the Ambassador of cigars. So it fit the image I wanted perfectly.
What do you mean by ‘The Ambassador of Cigars’?
“[We provide] the environment and selection that the finest cigar aficionado expects, but we also create an environment that’s comfortable for the novice.”
It’s a name that I’ve earned over time, with two decades now being in the business, many of my friends call me the Ambassador of Fine Cigars. That’s exactly what we do, we provide first of all the environment and selection that the finest cigar aficionado expects, but we also create an environment that’s comfortable for the novice. Often people come in who are new to cigars and ask where to start and tell us that they need the experience. We take the time to sit down, explain how to get started, teach them how to cut the cigars, how to light them–and people really appreciate that. We take them step by step through the process, and I understand not all stores take the time to do that–but we take pride in our service.
What’s the meaning of ‘1971’?
1971 was the year that I first started smoking cigars, when I turned 18, and I put it there because for me each year is an anniversary celebrating my years of smoking cigars. So in a way 1971 was the year when all this began.
What is The Ambassador Experience?
There’s more to the Ambassador experience than just coming in, buying a cigar and leaving. We give the customer full service, we don’t just tell the customer to go pick out a cigar and bring it back to the register. We ask every customer if they want help, and if they do we walk with them to the humidor, discuss their tastes and ask questions to learn and understand their palate. We’re all different individuals and taste is subjective, it’s just like anything–food, clothes, color–we have different tastes. The difference is we care about that taste and we work with the customer to match them up with the cigar that will give them the best experience, regardless of price.

Dumpster Intervention Patrol
What specifically is your business and how/why did you start your business?
Dumpster Intervention Patrol, LLC (DIP) is a family owned and operated business in Arizona launched on December 29, 2018. We provide bin & dumpster cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing, but we also offer other external cleaning services like: patios, driveways, sidewalks, porches, surface-scapes, garages, solar panel cleaning, artificial grass cleaning, windows and screen cleaning, and gutter cleaning, even disinfectant fogging; offering entire concierge professional cleaning service packages; 1-time, monthly, quarterly, bi annual, and annual residential and commercial services. A company to follow their mission statement through providing core values, great character, customer care, environmental awareness, and we stand for community. To help our community with employment opportunities to grow their lives, as well their families, in a positive workplace environment. Striving to reduce potential hazardous and or toxic emissions in our environment cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing one bin and dumpster at a time, freshening our air quality and providing a cleaner environment for our future.
Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the Arizona? Tell us about your family.
1. Grew up in Arizona over 43 years, currently 49 years young!
2. Community: Volunteer time mentoring and coaching children through baseball [20+ years], as well presenting motivational speeches to groups and schools.
3. Family: Save the best for last: My amazing wife Mehgan and I happily have a blended family, our children that we love and cherish; their names are Thomas, Kamrin, Sedona, Domenic, Trent, Savanna, and Courtney. Several things we promote in the Dawson family are high energy, positive attitude, motivation and success, and failure is the key to whatever our purpose takes us. All our children are either successful in the workplace and or still attending school performing very well in the education and athletes. From taekwondo, competitive dance and cheer, to traveling the USA playing competitive travel baseball.

What is unique about your business (what sets you apart from the rest)?
Dumpster Intervention Patrol is unique because most haven’t even seen bin cleaning before. A new way of providing sanitization to the world cleaning 1-bin, 1-dumpster at a time. We add value to others, providing a preventative maintenance cleaning service that will become a common household and business service. Offering other external cleaning services this allows to diversify to an ever-changing world. What we want to create is “The New Environmental Clean Revolution.”
Any new news/ updates on your business/industry?
Not only do we offer residential and commercial services, but also partnerships. We can partner up with any type of community, for example, city sanitization departments and organizations, HOA’s and property management companies, eco-friendly foundations, organizations, and many more. Providing entire community sanitization solutions cleaning recycle and trash bins month to month, we would follow the waste management companies as they pick up the stinky mess, then we can clean and eliminate the smells. Just like working with artificial grass companies, we can add value offering their customers a service cleaning package reducing unwanted smells from animals and foliage.
Dumpster Intervention Patrol can partner up with solar panel installation companies, artificial turf installation companies, painting companies, schools, parks, cities, landscapers, real estate agents, pool cleaning services, bug termination, offices, hospitals, trash and recycle waste management businesses, grocery stores (cleaning carts)…the list is truly endless, “why,” because we truly add value!
Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice (whether general or specific) can you offer to the residents?
Not only as a business owner and a leader in and throughout our communities, I too, am a homeowner and a consumer just like you. The advice I would like to provide is expand your thoughts and what you consider clean and dirty? If you smell something nasty, it’s not healthily. Just like your cans. When you or your family take the trash out, make a note how many things (like doorknobs) do you touch, then arriving at the trash bins, what do you touch, then after touching the bins, what do you touch to get back to the house to wash your hands. Many things touched and hence…the spreading of viruses, bacteria’s, and fungus. Advise, help, a.k.a. DumpsterIP (Dumpster Intervention Patrol) get in touch with your community leadership to have the community budget reevaluated and have this incorporated into your HOA services. See how much landscaping is in your community and see how we can work together with all parties, because sanitization is becoming a household common practice and even more as the world evolves, and as we evolve to.
