The COVID-19 pandemic has brought extraordinary times for everyone in our community, and, now more than ever, we all look to the arts to provide an entertaining escape and source of joy. The Arizona Broadway Theatre, like so many theatres across the globe, was forced into an extended intermission in March of 2020. The past year was incredibly challenging, and the financial losses from the pandemic are impacting our theatre significantly. However, the show must go on! Like many in our industry, we’ve learned to adapt to our “new normal” and have found new ways to remain at the heart of our culturally rich community.

We introduced virtual programming to remain connected to our ABT family across the country during the spring and summer shutdown.  Programs such as “Makers Monday” and “Tap Along Tuesday” provided educational outlets, “Throwback Thursday” interviews and “Friday Night Cabarets” allowed our artists and patrons to gather and enjoy live (yet virtual) performance, and “Storytime With Mary Poppins” made sure our youngest ABT fans were included in the fun.

In the fall, ABT began offering concerts and musical reviews at reduced capacity. Our community, patrons, and staff's health and safety are of top priority, and, to that end, we have reimagined our 2021 season. Our productions will feature a limited number of artists, and additional safety and sanitation procedures have been implemented at the theatre. While routine has changed for our patrons, the assurance of outstanding entertainment and a memorable experience has not.

Thanks to our community's patronage and financial support, ABT will continue to produce the highest quality live musical theatre experiences, offer professional opportunities to emerging artists, and serve our youth with programs created especially for children. There is a bright light at the end of the dark tunnel that was 2020, and we look forward to what the next fifteen years have in store. The stage is set for the future, ensuring that this theatre will continue to bring our community the shows they love for years to come.
