Igor and Meghan Afonkin have been in the ballroom dance industry for over ten years working as teachers, trainers and business owners. Together they have trained and educated hundreds of dancers of all levels. They have been working in Minnesota the last four years as independent contractors, which allowed them the time to travel the country competing professionally together. Meghan & Igor became United States Champions in their division in 2019. They are thrilled to start their next chapter of life with their two children (Luka – age 4 & Gianna – due in July) in Peoria, AZ. As business owners of Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Peoria their promise is to enrich the lives of the community - physically, mentally, emotionally and socially through the positive, transforming power of dance.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios
Fred Astaire Dance Studios is an International company that was founded by Fred Astaire himself in 1947. Today, there are over 180 studios throughout the world. Fred Astaire Dance Studios has had a presence in Arizona for 65 years. Fred Astaire Dance Studios offers dance instruction on all partnership dances, this includes over 26 different dances in American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Latin and International Standard dancing. Fred Astaire Dance Studios specializes in custom and personalized dance programs to meet our student’s needs. Fred Astaire Dance Studio also takes part in competitions, shows, trips and social dance outings.  

Meghan Afonkin
Meghan learned the ins and outs of the business by growing up in the dance studio. Meghan began dancing at the age of 6 where she was trained by the top teachers in the world. Her latest achievements have been with her current dance partner and husband, Igor Afonkin. Meghan & Igor are known around the world with their top ranks in the American Smooth division. They currently hold a professional national title. Meghan has been recognized as a top teacher at numerous ballroom events around the country. Meghan & Igor successful ran an independent dance business in MN for the past four years. Their clients have won national awards and their business has been recognized as the top “small” dance studio in MN for the years; 2018, 2019 & 2020. Additionally, Meghan has an extensive background in mass communications and public relations. Meghan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in PR. She has worked as a PR specialist with duties such as writing press releases, developing campaigns to increase public awareness, communication with media, building media kits & help to plan and execute company and client events. 

Igor Afonkin
Owner & Manager
Igor Afonkin started his ballroom dance training in Voronezh, Russia where he received his bachelor’s degree in dance education. Igor brought his skills and expertise to the United States in 2007. Igor was hired as a dance teacher at a Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Chicago. Igor was trained in the ballroom dance business under the Fred Astaire model. Igor quickly became a newcomer specialist. Igor went on to successfully run his independent dance business in Chicago for seven years. During that time, he became a top teacher in the United States and moved up the rankings as a professional competitor. He moved to MN in 2016 where he began dancing with his wife Meghan Afonkin. They quickly won numerous titles around the country and won a national championship in 2019. Igor became the top teacher in MN at numerous events and produce many amateur champions under his training. Additionally, Igor is a real estate agent for Counselor Realty of Victoria, MN.
