“I am so pleased to have Percy lead our Southwest Region,” said Colleen Langner, senior vice president, field operations.  “He has seen us grow from a traditional residential cable TV provider to a broadband service provider that connects millions of homes and businesses with a continually expanding diverse product portfolio. Water safety: Keeping you and your family safe from drowning
So far, this year 18 people have died from drowning in metro Phoenix area

PHOENIX (June 25, 2021) – With the very hot temperatures past us for right now, more people may head back to the pool and that makes it critical to review pool-safety practices, say Banner Health safety experts.

“I think everyone thinks it (drowning) can’t happen to me. It can happen to anyone. It doesn’t matter where you live or what you do,’’ said Tracey Fejt, RN, Banner Health injury prevention coordinator. Fejt is pronounced (fate).

So far this year, there have been 18 deaths in the metro Phoenix area, according to the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona. That includes four children under the age of five years old and thirteen adults.

“There’s got to be layers of protection and those layers of protection start with the ABCs of drowning prevention,’’ said Fejt, who frequently speaks to community groups about downing prevention.

Fejt lists the ABCs:

  • Adult supervision: Always have eyes on kids and be close enough to touch them. In big family gatherings, designate an adult to be a lifeguard to constantly watch the kids. Also, more adults drown than kids, so adults should have a swim buddy.
  • Barriers between children and water. Make sure there is a five-foot fence around the pool and that the gate latches by itself. Don’t forget that kids can crawl through doggie doors so block the doors’ access to pools.
  • Classes in CPR for adults and swim lessons for kids are essential. Drowning victims have a much higher rate of survival if CPR is administered immediately
  • Coast-guard approved. “Floaties’’ or “water-wings’’ can pose a danger to children. Use only items that have labels indicating they are approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Banner Better Together Gift Giving Event

Banner Better Together Gift Giving Event

Banner Health is in preparation for this year’s Better Together Employee Giving Fundraiser. Banner Health’s Better Together has raised over 1.8 million dollars a year lending support to 501c organizations that provide shelter, meals, medical research, senior care, and more. Some of the agencies include United Way, Alzheimer’s Research, Senior Community Centers, burn camps, behavioral health, and over 20 other non-profit organizations serving Arizona.

Employee teams from each facility are tasked to find unique ways that drive the employee gift giving. This is done through payroll donations, silent auctions, or raffle participation. Arizona West is the home of two participating Peoria Chamber hospitals.  Each is offering events to entice the employee giving.  We would appreciate any items/ services that could be put together to create a unique bid gift. We are only successful in the endeavors through support from organizations giving items of significant value.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or to make a donation, contact myself for Veronica with the Chamber.
