Banner Better Together Gift Giving Event

Banner Better Together Gift Giving Event

Banner Health is in preparation for this year’s Better Together Employee Giving Fundraiser. Banner Health’s Better Together has raised over 1.8 million dollars a year lending support to 501c organizations that provide shelter, meals, medical research, senior care, and more. Some of the agencies include United Way, Alzheimer’s Research, Senior Community Centers, burn camps, behavioral health, and over 20 other non-profit organizations serving Arizona.

Employee teams from each facility are tasked to find unique ways that drive the employee gift giving. This is done through payroll donations, silent auctions, or raffle participation. Arizona West is the home of two participating Peoria Chamber hospitals.  Each is offering events to entice the employee giving.  We would appreciate any items/ services that could be put together to create a unique bid gift. We are only successful in the endeavors through support from organizations giving items of significant value.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or to make a donation, contact myself for Veronica with the Chamber.

Thank you,

What's Happening in Peoria

Stay Safe During Monsoon Season

Monsoon season is in full swing, and while the summer storms can be a welcome break, residents are encouraged to keep up to date on changing weather conditions. Monsoons can develop quickly, bringing high winds, dust storms, wet roads, and potential flooding. Before a storm, secure outdoor objects and have extra batteries and flashlights on hand. To stay safe during a storm, follow these steps:

·         If you are outdoors and safe shelter is not available, find a low spot away from trees, fences, and poles. Avoid high ground, water, trees, and metal objects.

·         If you encounter a dust storm while driving, pull off the road immediately. Turn off your headlights and taillights, put your vehicle in “PARK,” and take your foot off the brake. Stay in the vehicle with your seat belt buckled and wait for the storm to pass.

·         Do not risk crossing a flooded wash or roadway, even if it does not look deep. Even a few inches of running water poses a serious risk. Control of a vehicle can be lost in as little as six inches of water and most vehicles will begin to float in two feet of water. The way to prevent becoming trapped or swept away by flowing water is to not drive through it.

For more information and tips, visit www.azdot.gov/monsoons. Peoria’s Fire Stations have sand and bags available for residents in need. Residents must bring a shovel and a way to transport the bags. Firefighters are not available to fill the bags so residents must be able to do it themselves. Visit www.peoriaaz.gov/fire for locations.

Two new pickleball courts are coming soon to Alta Vista Park in the Willow District!

This project will accomplish several things. The existing tennis court at the park were in dire need of surface repair. The cracks will all be repaired as part of this project. The faded, chipping court surface will also be replaced. Finally, one of the two existing courts will transition to become two pickleball courts. Going forward, at Alta Vista Park, there will be opportunities for those looking to play tennis and pickleball.

Work begins this week on the refurbishment of the courts at Alta Vista. By early August, the new courts will be complete, unless the weather does not cooperate.
