The Madison County Historical Society is hosting an evening of wine, cheese and music on Wednesday evening, January 31 in the historic Weir House at 715 N. Main Street in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Weir House has been home to the Madison County History Museum since 1963. The Society will show the progress of renovation, exhibit designs for the newly imagined museum, and accept input from guests on what they would like to see in the museum. Music will be provided by jazz musician Wilbert Glasper.
The evening is a fundraising event that will provide needed funds for operations and maintenance of Society facilities and programming. (Suggested donation $25)
The Madison County Historical Society has been collecting objects of historical significance to Madison County for more than a century. In addition, they provide research assistance and educational programming that benefits both today's residents as well as future generations. In recent years, Society staff and volunteers have assisted hundreds of family genealogists, provided programming for community events, offered a Summer History Camp for children, created educational materials for regional teachers, and participated in numerous community events. In addition, the Society organizes the annual Living History Days Festival, Family History Walk and Dining in History event. All this, while also doing the work to preserve the artifacts, documents and photographs that tell Madison County's history.
The Madison County Archival Library is open Mon.-Tues. by appointment, Wed-Fri. 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sun. 1-4 p.m. The library is a FamilySearch affiliate library which provides additional genealogical resources.
MCHS is a 501(c)3 charitable organization without public funding, so it relies on membership and donor contributions to maintain an archival library and history museum.
