What Are We Up To?

Quincy Chamber of Commerce

- We had our last board meeting on Thursday, April 21st via Zoom and installed our newest board member, Cindy Leland.

- Our employee, Cheryl Kolb, attended the RERC Local Steering Committee meeting on Friday, April 29th and the nation-wide group meeting on Monday, May 2nd.  What is the RERC?  Read below and look for more details in next week's newsletter!

- We will be hanging the flower baskets all around town this Saturday, May 14th.  Let's all hope we have no more freezing weather after that!

- Our next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 19th.  Want to join in?  There's LOTS happening and valuable input is appreciated!  Email us at info@quincychamber.com and we'll send you the Zoom link when it's available.

- Our next big event is the Plumas-Sierra County Fair Parade, scheduled for Saturday, July 30th to align with the change of dates of the Fair this year.  We have already started receiving entries, so start thinking about what your group, family, business or organization wants to do!

What is the RERC?

Quincy Chamber of Commerce

Save the date for an outdoor recreation and downtown workshop!  Quincy has been selected to receive planning assistance through the federal Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) program, sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the USDA Forest Service, and the Northern Border Regional Commission.  In partnership with a team of consultants and federal and state partners, our community will develop an action plan to strengthen Quincy’s outdoor recreation sector and revitalize our downtown.  Mark your calendars for the RERC public workshop on June 8-9—we need your ideas and aspirations for Quincy’s future!  With questions, contact Megan Mansfield, Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship at 408.636.6754 or megan@sierratrails.org.

Popsalooza Concert this Friday!

Plumas-Sierra County Fair

The weather is supposed to be great this Friday evening for our jazz concert! If it gets cold, we will move into the Tulsa Building, but bring a sweater just in case. You can get tickets at the door for $20, or you can swing by the fair office to buy them. Remember, if you have a ticket from a canceled concert, we will honor it for this concert. It's Spring! Come on out and jazz it up!

Mountain Epic Trail Daze Event

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship

If you missed out on our first Mountain Epic of the year, you won’t want to miss out on the next one happening this weekend Friday to Sunday, May 13-15. Join us at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds in Quincy where we will continue building brand new singletrack that we started two weeks ago – as well as completing maintenance on Mount Hough Trail.

It’s so much more than digging in the woods, it’s a weekend party in the woods with food, beverages, entertainment (note: dirt track races are on Friday night at 7pm this time), and fun all provided by SBTS. Bring your family and friends and come on out to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while doing good things for trails. And if you can’t make it this weekend, we have Epics going every month this summer, so join us for some Good Times with Good People.

For the Younger Geologists (and maybe some older ones too!)

The Toy Store

Collect and learn about 12 different types of minerals 🪨 from the science education company, Thames & Kosmos. Each mineral comes with a full-color manual describing the science and cultural significance of the mineral- choose from amethyst, aventurine, blue quartz, desert rose, fuchsite, obsidian, picture jasper, quartz, red jasper, rose quartz, snowflake obsidian, and sodalite.

Thames & Kosmos was founded in 2001 with the mission of improving informal science education outside of the classroom. T&K's mission has since expanded from its STEM roots to encompass other educational branches, including arts and crafts and games and magic. T&K places an emphasis on teaching concepts and skills through tactile processes. Their vision is to give all children access to real, physical activities and projects that teach them how things work. Stop by the Toy Store to see their other products!

Enjoy Something New

Feather River Food Co-op

Kayla and Greg are the owners and operators of Pine Cone Kitchen, out of Graeagle. They distribute their black garlic, which is fondly known as "High Sierra Caviar" to our Co-ops. Find this lovely delicacy in our deli case at both store locations.

Trail Updates

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship

We have three trail crews out in three different areas. In Downieville, crews are taking out fallen logs and fixing some tread repair and smoothing raking bumps. Butcher Ranch toward the top of the Downieville Downhill was cleared as far as the Waterfall and both Big Boulder and Empire Creek have begun to be cleared. In Quincy, the trail crew continued with new construction and continued maintenance of Mount Hough trails, as well as some repairs and conditions surveys near Belden on Ben Lomond Trail. Quincy trail crews have been joined by Portola trail crews to maximize the #dirtmagic on Mount Hough until they can begin work again on Beckwourth Trail as conditions permit.

As the snow continues to melt, we'll keep getting trails ready for adventure! Be sure to check the trail conditions reports on the Yuba Expeditions website to stay informed as things open up.
