What Are We Up To?

- We had our Board Meeting on Monday, June 6th. Items discussed included adoption of our Budget for the 2022/2023 fiscal year, the PG&E settlement money and scheduling a special meeting to move forward, the Fair, the Fair Parade, flower baskets and the Plumas County Chamber Coalition. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00 a.m. via Zoom. If you would like to attend please send us an email at info@quincychamber.com.
- On June 8th and 9th we assisted with the Community Tour, the Community Opening Meeting and the Workshop as part of the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) grant program that Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship obtained. Read below for more details and see pictures.
- On June 13th Cheryl applied for two grants through the Feather River Tourism Association; one for Sparkle and one for Groundhog Fever Festival. The intent of these grants will be to extend advertising for the two events in an effort to increase overnight stays in our area.

Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Update
Quincy Chamber of Commerce
The Recreation Economy for Rural Communities is a planning assistance program Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship obtained. They started the process a few years ago (pre-COVID), and Quincy was finally one of only 10 communities chosen throughout the nation to receive the funding this year.
The funding provides for several local, state and federal agencies to work with our community to develop projects that would enhance and support outdoor recreation and revitalize our Main Streets in support of our local economy.
Our Local Steering Committee consists of:
- Megan Mansfield, Greg Williams, Nova Collinson and Trinity Sterling from Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship
- Tracey Ferguson, Plumas County Planning Department
- Bobby Gott, Gott Powersports
- Matthew Kitchens, The Toy Store
- Karen Kleven, Feather River Tourism Association
- Cheryl Kolb, Quincy Chamber of Commerce
- John Kolb, Plumas Corporation
- Kara Rockett-Arsenault, Plumas Arts
Our Federal and State Agency Partners are:
- US Environmental Protection Agency
- USDA Forest Service
- USDA Rural Development
- US Economic Development Administration
- Small Business Administration
- Federal Emergency Management Agency
- National Park Service
- US Department of Housing and Urban Development
- State of California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-BIZ)
- Sierra Nevada Conservancy
- California Dept. of Natural Resources
- California Dept. of Housing and Community Development
On Wednesday, June 8th we met approximately 20 folks representing our state and federal agency partners at Dame Shirley Plaza and caravanned to Feather River College for a brief tour of their facilities and a great presentation by Nick Maffei. Next was a stop at Plumas Corporation for presentations by the Feather River Resource Conservation District, Plumas Co. Firesafe Council, Plumas Corporation and Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. We returned to Dame Shirley Plaza and met with Corey Pargee, who provided us with some wonderful information about the Feather River Land Trust. We took a lunch break with some of us heading to The Knook and others heading to Quincy Provisions. After lunch we walked Main Street corridor and met briefly with Jeb Heiman and Andy Ryback at Plumas Bank and Matthew Kitchens at The Toy Store. Part of the group met with David Arsenault at Feather River Outdoors.
Our Community Meeting that evening was held at the West End Theatre. We had an excellent turnout with roughly 70 people in attendance; in fact, we were told by multiple federal agencies we had the best turnout for the Community Meeting they had seen. It was the perfect opportunity for community members to voice their thoughts on projects that would benefit our town.
On Thursday, June 9th we reconvened at the Fairgrounds for the Workshop. Again, an excellent attendance with roughly 80 people there. We did lots of thought-provoking exercises, large group and small group discussions and several activities which really helped narrow down our focus on projects that were considered to be the highest priorities.
Stay tuned as we move forward; our next meeting will be via phone call with our state and federal partners on June 27th.

Quincy Streetscape Committee Membership Meeting
John Kolb
A working committee of the Quincy Chamber of Commerce, the Streetscape Committee has had a significant impact on the way Quincy looks over the past 20 years. From the design and construction of Dame Shirley Plaza to the planting of trees along Main Street downtown and in East Quincy, this committee has benefitted the community and continues to do what we can to beautify the town’s commercial district.
There is still a lot to do. The flower baskets that the Chamber puts out along Main Street and in front of participating businesses come from Martin’s Produce and Greenhouse in Standish, a 2 hour drive north of Quincy. Volunteers with trucks and/or trailers are needed to make the twice-a-year trip. These baskets are watered every 2 to 3 days, depending on the weather, so help is needed there as well. Trees in the downtown and East Quincy corridor need careful pruning and some love to restore them. The Streetscape Committee will also be involved in planning for future improvements in upcoming years and would welcome your ideas.
If you can help with some of these tasks, please mark Friday, June 24 th, 2022 on your calendar. There will be a membership meeting at Dame Shirley Plaza at 7 pm.

Art Barn Docents Needed
Plumas Arts
The Art Barn at the Plumas-Sierra County Fair proudly showcases the work of artists of all ages and abilities. Plumas Arts works hard each year to coordinate the preparation and display of work in this much-visited exhibition.
The monumental task of getting all the art accepted and up on the walls and docenting during the fair requires many hands and hundreds of volunteer hours to accomplish. We need your help.
Work is delivered to the fairgrounds on Thursday and Friday, July 21st & 22nd, between 3pm and 7pm. About six volunteers in 2 to 4 hour shifts are needed during that time.
During the fair, pairs of docents work in two-hour shifts July 28th to the 31st to care for the work and help with the People’s Choice Awards voting. Art Barn Hours are Thursday & Sunday from Noon to 8pm and Friday & Saturday from Noon to 9pm.
Any amount of time you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Every volunteer working 4 hours or more will be given a free admission pass to the fair.
To sign up to volunteer please call 283-3402 or email jennifer@plumasarts.org
