Flower Baskets Are Up! Thank You Everyone!

Quincy Chamber of Commerce

The flower baskets are up! We fundraised $9,500 for this community project and here’s what it takes to make this happen…

We would like to thank Plumas Arts for continuing to be the fiscal agent for this project and The Toy Store for being a donation point.

Many, many thanks to the following volunteers for lifting, loading, hauling and hanging baskets:

John Kolb
Matthew Haesche
Cheryl Kolb
Alyssa Zigas
Scott & Cynthia Lusk
Scott Corey
Tyler Ramsay
Rayen Lowry

Kevin Davis for supplying us with the water trailer to use for the entire season,

and Wild Hare Signs for creating and donating the sponsorship plaques.

Bringing 69 large (and full!) flower baskets home takes a tremendous amount of time, effort and energy, but they look absolutely gorgeous and we all appreciate them so much!

Please see our website for the full list of Sponsors, Donors & Business Participants.

We are honored and proud to organize this beautiful project as it continues to grow. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

College English Teacher Joan Jarrett Receives State Award

Feather River College

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors presented the 2023 Classified Employee of the Year Awards to five individuals across the state. Joan Jarrett of Feather River College was one of those honored.

Recipients are nominated by their colleagues and endorsed by the local board of trustees. Winners are selected by representatives from the Board of Governors, the Consultation Council and the Chancellor’s Office based on their commitment to the Vision for Success, the mission of community colleges and their professional standards.

The announcement from the Chancellor’s office read: “Joan Jarrett has served Feather River College for the past 15 years. Throughout this time and through multiple roles, Jarrett has streamlined the college’s efforts to better support students through the learning experience. Her myriad efforts have advanced the college’s work in reducing equity gaps, especially for students who are at risk of falling off their educational plans and providing them with the support and confidence they need to succeed. In her current role as program coordinator of the Instructional Resource Center, Jarrett strives to build a community where students can grow academically and personally. Colleagues say Jarrett is equally devoted to her co-workers, advocating for regular professional development, particularly focusing on DEIA activities, and promoting other strategies to improve student success outcomes.”

Mark Your Calendar for the County Picnic

Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds

PSCF Foundation is planning the County Picnic and a free lunch will be offered to the first 500 people. Classic picnic fare of hot dogs and hamburgers, macaroni salad, chips, lemonade and a cup of ice cream will make up the menu. While you eat, you can enjoy live music from Rummy. This classic rock and roll band will get you out of your chair to work off some calories.

The Plumas County Health Department will bring in their popular bicycle course for the youngsters. This was a hit at the Children’s Fair this month. If you are more serious about burning calories, the Central Plumas Recreation District will set up a mini-Mountaineer Challenge Course. The main event was held at Plumas Pines Golf Course last year and included challenges like carrying sand bags, crawling through obstacles and that event even had a few slip and slides. This will probably be a dry offering, but still, a good chance to try it out and maybe be inspired to enter the main event this Fall.

Activities begin at 11:30 a.m. and go until 2 p.m. Everything will happen on the promenades just inside the front gates of the fairgrounds. If anyone wants to reserve a space for a reunion, they are encouraged to contact the fair office.

The PSCF Foundation is footing the bill for the event, but donations are welcome.
