Plumas Arts is pleased to announce a gallery opening reception this Friday May 5th from 5pm to 7pm at 525 Main Street in Quincy.

​For the month of May, the Plumas Arts Gallery is featuring the work of Plumas County Students. Displaying projects from Quincy Elementary, Quincy High, C. Roy Charmichael, Greenville High, and Portola High Schools.

​Come by the Plumas Arts Gallery during regular hours to view  the students artwork. The gallery is open Wednesday through Friday 11am-5pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.

Reno Modern Brass will be entertaining us this Saturday evening in Serpilio Hall at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds. This is a different brass ensemble from the one that wowed us last year, but reviews say just as good. Folks, these are some amazing performances and not many people are coming out to enjoy them. Support a future of these concerts and tell a friend to join you for a great evening of music. Tickets are $20 at the door and it starts at 7pm. Hope to see you there!

Scouts Troop 151 is planning several flag activities for Memorial Day Weekend. They are collecting flags for a flag retiring ceremony. If you know of anyone with a flag that needs proper retiring, please contact them at troop151quincy@gmail.com for proper disposal services.

The Small Business Virtual Tax Workshop can help business owners learn how to navigate their federal tax responsibilities. This workshop is an easy and convenient way for both new and experienced small business owners to learn or review topics relevant to their business. Online at IRS.gov, it's free and available 24/7.

People can watch the video lessons in any order. The topics include:

• Federal taxes and your new business
• Schedule C and other small business taxes
• Filing and paying taxes electronically
• Business use of your home
• Federal taxes when hiring employees or independent contractors
• Managing payroll to withhold the correct amount of taxes
• Tax deposits and filing a return to report payroll taxes
• Hiring people who live in the U.S. who aren't citizens

Each lesson links to more specific topics within that lesson. Viewers can pick and choose among the lessons to find the one they need. They can also pause and bookmark lessons so they can review information later.

In addition to English, the workshop is also available in Spanish, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese and Haitian Creole by clicking on the language menu below the presentation. Transcripts and closed caption options are also available.

          It’s not a secret that the job market has been a challenge for several years. Plumas County has been no exception. Even more interesting is the struggle our local government has had filling positions. For decades, a job with the County of Plumas meant good reliable pay, exceptional benefits, opportunity for growth, security, and the chance to be of service to fellow citizens. The truth is; nothing is different. All those attributes of a County job still apply. Plus, the variety of positions offers exciting new pathways. Over 20 departments provide services to the public, with a large number of positions in each department to accomplish that mission. The leaders of those county departments want to tell you about those many positions; what they do, why it is exciting, what is the compensation, opportunities for advancement and how soon you can start. They’ve made it easier than ever before.

          On Saturday, May 20, a job fair will be held at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Most of the County Departments will be there to show you what they have to offer, and you can do the same for them. From financial services to law enforcement, health care to maintenance, there are a dizzying variety of jobs available right now. There will be workshops throughout the event explaining what it’s like to work for Plumas County. You will have the chance to talk to actual employees of these departments and get their take on open jobs. They can talk about qualifications, work requirements, and work schedules. You can complete and submit an application with a better understanding of what kind of job you may be seeking.

          Plumas County needs caring, hard working individuals that are willing to do an exceptional job for their friends and neighbors. The job market is showing signs of tightening up, so now is the time to join a team that needs you and offers stability. Plan on visiting the fairgrounds this May 20.
