Project Collaboration for Mountain Meadows Basin

Plumas Corporation

Plumas Corp recently met with California legislative representatives, landowners, board members, and project partners to tour several completed and prospective projects in the Mountain Meadows Basin — headwaters of the North Fork of the Feather River. Together, we discussed carbon storage, wetland firebreaks, wildlife habitat, environmental policy, and project funding. The primary objective of these discussions was to exchange ideas and insights on how best to safeguard this critical component of California's water supply. Special thanks to Sierra Nevada Conservancy for sponsoring this event.

Your Input Needed for Broadband Internet Plan

Quincy Chamber of Commerce

What is the internet like in this area? Please provide your input in this survey from Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC):

A countywide broadband strategic plan is being developed for Plumas County and your experiences and thoughts about our county’s existing and potential broadband service and infrastructure is an important part of the planning process. Please take 10 minutes to participate in the attached survey:

https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/8e8c9413b50b4be39bda047f447915a5.

Your responses to the questions in the survey will be reflected (collectively and anonymously) in the final countywide strategy and will play an important role in identifying the needs of our business community as we move forward with broadband infrastructure planning and development in a manner that ensures maximum connectivity for your business and our entire community.

This project is made possible via a grant from the US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and is executed in partnership with Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA). GSFA is a joint powers authority governed by a Board of Directors comprised of an elected county Supervisor from each of its 40-member rural California counties. Plumas County is a member of Golden State Finance Authority. Tilson Technology is the consulting firm conducting the survey and drafting the countywide broadband strategic plan.

The purpose of the countywide broadband strategic plan is to illuminate and record the gaps in service and infrastructure so that they may be corrected, ultimately resulting in quality, accessible broadband for all residents and businesses across rural California. The plans will also identify future opportunities to leverage and maximize robust broadband infrastructure that result in Smart Community applications –  fire detection, air quality monitoring, road safety and weather monitoring, free community Wi-Fi, etc. Your input via this survey will be valuable in identifying and prioritizing Smart Community applications.

Thank you, in advance, for taking the time to complete this important survey. Your contribution as a business leader will provide valuable input and is an important part of the strategic planning process.

Trail Project Funding Updates

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship

We have two exciting grant awards to share, both of which will greatly contribute to progress this year on Connected Communities. The first is a nearly $800,000 grant from Sierra Nevada Conservancy to fund the start of environmental review on the Sierra Valley Recreation Project.

That project proposes 63 miles of new trail to connect Loyalton, Sierraville and the East Zone Connectivity Project, which extends down to Truckee, as well as the evaluation of three new trailheads. Read More

The second is a $50,000 grant from the Friesen Foundation to help fund the start of the environmental review process for the 70-mile Indian Valley Loop.

A proposed multi-use singletrack trail connecting Greenville, Taylorsville and Crescent Mills in the Plumas National Forest, located about two hours north of Truckee and an hour-and-a-half northwest of Reno.

The Indian Valley Loop will eventually connect into the existing Mount Hough trail system outside the town of Quincy, allowing for longer adventures with pit stops, meals and overnight stays in communities along the way. Project Details.
