Free Car Seat Inspections This Weekend

REMSA

This Saturday from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. at 1630 Robb Drive in  Reno!

REMSA Health’s Point of Impact program encourages parents to ensure their car seats are properly installed. A properly installed car seat can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent. When visiting the checkpoint, parents should bring their child(ren) and car seat(s) and schedule about 30-45 minutes; longer for more than one seat. Staff and volunteers will check for obvious defects and determine whether the car seat appears on a national recall list. In addition, they will check the installation, correct any problems and provide education on the proper use and installation of the car seat.

Volunteers Needed

Feather River Food Co-op

As we near the end of summer, we only have two more clean-up dates remaining at each location for our Adopt A Highway program. Our success would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our exceptional volunteer liaisons, Carla Hamilton from Quincy and Will Mckie from Portola. They lead 5-6 clean-up events from April to September, managing teams of residents from Plumas-Sierra County to collect 4-6 bags of waste which maintains clean roads and streams. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to keeping our communities clean. #CoopStrongerTogether

Wednesday, August 30 at 5:00 pm
West End Theatre inside Quintopia
Submitted by Richard Stockton

Meet Plumas County’s Office of Emergency Services team!

Travis Goings, Director of Risk Management and Office of Emergency Services
Travis was named Director of Risk Management in August 2022.  In May 2023, Travis took on another title as Director for the Plumas County Office of Emergency Services.  The OES Division provides oversight and coordination for emergency and disaster consequence management planning, response, and recovery operations.
Travis served all of Plumas County by working as a Sergeant for Plumas County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years.  As a Sergeant his boots were on the ground working evacuations, rescues, active shooters, and all-around community safety.  His background in Public Safety and management brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the Plumas County OES Division and our community.

Lori Pini, Manager of Plumas County Office of Emergency Services
Lori was named Manager of Plumas County Office of Emergency Services in June 2023.
Lori started her Emergency Management career at Plumas County Public Health where she worked for 16 years as a Health Education Specialist-Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.  During this time, she assisted Plumas County OES on various plans, projects, trainings, and data collection.  Lori has worked in many Emergency Operation Centers for Plumas County during wildfires, floods, heat waves, and multiple other disasters.
After leaving Public Health in 2017, she worked for the State of California Office of Emergency Services as an Emergency Services Coordinator for the Inland Region.
Lori is excited to be working again with Plumas County partners, businesses, and families.

We can look forward to hearing from Travis and Lori regarding Plumas County’s Office of Emergency Services.

Please join us at the West End Theatre inside Quintopia on Wednesday August 30th at 5:00 pm. We ask our regular attendees to invite a friend or neighbor as we extend a special invitation to our fellow Firesafe Community members throughout Plumas County. Youth Crew Season Wraps Up

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship

The 2023 Youth Crew season officially wrapped last Friday, when the group gathered for a end-of-season BBQ in Quincy to celebrate this summer's long list of accomplishments. This year, 20 local teens participated in Youth Crew—four of whom worked both of the four-week hitches—and together, they built over 3,300 feet of new trail on Mount Hough, making progress on critical future #connectedcommunities links. Along with Hough, the Youth Crew also worked on Mill Creek, Chapman Creek, Bear Lakes Loop, Round Lake Trail, the South Park trail system, Mount Elwell and the Thousand Lakes Wilderness trails. THANK YOU to everyone who participated, to our trail crew leaders and to our supporters Sierra Pacific Industries, Osprey, REI, Red Wing Shoes, Patagonia and Plumas Bank. For more information on the Youth Crew program, check out: https://sierratrails.org/student-trail-crew/.

SBA Assistance Available

U.S. Small Business Administration

Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to California businesses and residents affected by the severe winter storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides that occurred Feb. 21 – July 10, announced Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –

The disaster declaration makes SBA assistance available in Calaveras, Fresno, Inyo, Kings, Marin, Plumas, Santa Barbara and Trinity counties.

“SBA’s mission-driven team stands ready to help California’s small businesses and residents impacted by this disaster,” said Administrator Guzman. “We’re committed to providing federal disaster loans swiftly and efficiently, with a customer-centric approach to help businesses and communities recover and rebuild.”

SBA has established a Virtual Disaster Loan Outreach Center to provide personalized assistance to business owners, homeowners and renters. SBA Customer Service Representatives will be available to business owners and individuals to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help each person complete their electronic loan application. Applicants may call or email as indicated below.

Businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.

For small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size, SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic injury assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any property damage.

Disaster loans up to $500,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property, including personal vehicles.

SBA can also lend additional funds to businesses and homeowners to help with the cost of improvements to protect, prevent or minimize future disaster damage.

Interest rates can be as low as 4 percent for businesses, 2.375 percent for private nonprofit organizations and 2.375 percent for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.

Interest does not begin to accrue until 12 months from the date of the initial disaster loan disbursement. SBA disaster loan repayment begins 12 months from the date of the first disbursement.

Applicants may apply online, receive additional disaster assistance information and download applications at https://disasterloanassistance.sba.gov/. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. For people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services. Completed applications should be mailed to U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX  76155.

The deadline to apply for property damage is Oct. 10, 2023. The deadline to apply for economic injury is May 9, 2024.
