The Farm at Krystal Acres is a 40 acre alpaca farm on scenic San Juan Island in Washington State. Home to between 50 and 60 alpacas of all different colors and ages, the farm has operated as an alpaca farm for over 20 years. The animals are shorn once a year towards the end of Spring and their exquisite fiber is used to make yarns and products sold in the store. Stop by the farm and enjoy the pastoral island views dotted with alpacas grazing.
Take a stroll in the alleys between the pastures and learn a bit about these gentle animals, and how they are the most eco friendly farm animal in the world. Educational signage can be found along the fence lines, and there is always someone around to answer any questions about alpacas, fiber farming or regenerative agriculture in the islands. Afterwards, come visit our store and shop for knitwear, yarns, home goods, toys and gifts made from the finest alpaca, one of the softest, most sustainable, cruelty-free, environmentally friendly fibers on the planet.
Alpaca fiber happens to be one of the world’s most sustainable, versatile and eco-conscious fibers being used in today’s textile industry. Hailing from the Peruvian Andes in South America, alpacas are acclimated to regions with extreme climates. This natural adaptation allows them to develop their globally sought-after and resilient coats. Alpaca fiber is warm, lightweight, durable, hypoallergenic, water-resistant, soft and lustruous. It makes wonderful yarns which are then knit, woven and crocheted into amazingly soft clothing, blankets and other goods. Don't miss this special place on San Juan Island!
