City National Bank

City National Bank of San Saba, established in 1883 by Wiley T. Murray and Thomas W. Ward, began as a response to the growing financial needs of frontier settlers in Texas. Initially starting as a general merchandise store, Murray and Ward transitioned into banking due to their successful lending operations and the demand for secure storage of valuables like silver and gold. By March 1883, they formalized their partnership with a capital of $100,000, laying the foundation for what would become a cornerstone institution in San Saba.

Through decades marked by economic challenges, including the Great Depression, City National Bank persevered and grew. By 1933, it held substantial deposits and loans despite the nationwide financial downturn. Over the years, leadership passed down through the Murray family, with William Pat Murray assuming the presidency in 1959 and guiding the bank through further growth and community service. Today, the bank remains committed to its motto, "Big Enough to Serve – Small Enough to Care," embodying its dedication to providing personalized financial services while maintaining strong ties to the local community.
