Lower Colorado River Authority

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), established by the Texas Legislature in 1934, is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Texans through water stewardship, energy provision, and community service. Based in Austin, TX, LCRA generates and delivers electric power, manages the lower Colorado River to ensure a reliable water supply, oversees a public parks system, and supports community development. Operating primarily on revenue from electric power services, with a smaller portion from water sales, LCRA does not receive state appropriations or have the authority to levy taxes.

With roots stretching back to the Great Depression, LCRA played a pivotal role in constructing dams that controlled the Colorado River and brought electricity to rural Central Texas, transforming the region. Today, LCRA continues its legacy of service, innovation, and stewardship, committed to providing essential services and supporting the communities it serves.
