Founded by Chelsea Sloan Carroll and her brother Scott Sloan, Uptown Cheapskate emerged from a vision Chelsea developed during her church mission in Anchorage, Alaska. Returning home, Chelsea and Scott leveraged their experience from their family's successful resale business, Kid to Kid, to create a resale store that catered to the fashion-forward needs of teens and young adults.
