Today's Weird Holidays!

Every Tuesday, we will be sharing what the day's weird holidays are!

National Curried Chicken Day

National Kiss a Ginger Day

National Pharmacist Day

National Sunday Supper Day

Throw Back Tuesday

Every week, the Sylvester Local has a section in their newspaper called "Looking back through the Years". This section showcases different events that happened on certain days many years ago. Every week, we will be showcasing parts of their section in our newsletter!

100 Years Ago - December 31, 1920

"Col. W.S. Sumner of Poulan has successfully passed the examination and will practice law in Poulan. Mr. Sumner is very popular in the county and his friends predict that he will enjoy a good practice from the start.

The County board of Commissioners, recognizing the scarcity of money and the real hardship worked upon some nu enforcing the payment of taxes at the regular date, has decided to give thirty days of grace, that is you will be allowed until January 15th before affidavits will be issues. Of course interest at seven percent will be charged from December 20 but there will be no other penalty.

An epidemic of crime has broken out throughout the world, in the centres of population. It is of course greater, due in part to the great army unemployed. Yet in the rural districts where there is plenty of jobs available for all, the condition is not much better. Murders are an every day occurence, in this country during the past week there has been no less than five murders, and uprecedented number. Much of the crime is attributed to the state of mind of the people following a war."
