Founded in 1987 by a group of community volunteers, Hospice of South Georgia has become the premier provider of a broad spectrum of end-of-life care services in the Greater Valdosta area. Hospice of South Georgia provides care to any person of any age facing a life-limiting illness, with life-expectancy of approximately 6 months or less. For patients and families seeking care focused on quality of life and comfort, Hospice of South Georgia is the right choice for you or your loved one's care.
Our Medical Director, Dr. Thomas Hobby, has many years of experience in Palliative and Hospice care, serving over the Palliative Care team at South Georgia Medical Center. Along with Dr. Hobby, many of our nurses and social workers hold certifications in Hospice and Palliative Care as well. Providing quality end-of-life care to patients and their families is accomplished by a team of professionals including registered nurses, doctors, social workers, a chaplain, certified nursing assistants, a dietitian, grief counselors, and trained volunteers. Our care is available to you at any time (on YOUR terms), no provider referral is needed. Just call us at +1 (229) 433-7000.
Traditionally, hospice care is provided at home where family, friends, or hired caregivers tend to the patient and receive support and instruction from Hospice staff. While Hospice of South Georgia continues to serve the community at home, we are able to offer extra support, an elevated level of symptom management, respite care for caregivers, and Residential living at our hospice care center, the Langdale Hospice House.
Why Choose Hospice of South Ga?
There are times when a caregiver needs a respite, or a break. Other times patients may have symptoms, like pain, that require intensive management until symptoms can be brought under control. These situations call for an alternative setting for a patient to receive care on a short term basis at the Langdale Hospice House. We also offer Residential Living, 24-7 hospice-centered care by certified Hospice and Palliative Care nurses, kitchen staff for delicious meals, volunteers to support hospice staff/family/caregivers, and rounds by our Medical Director- Dr. Thomas Hobby and associate director- Dr. Ben Hogan.
Fifteen private rooms in the Hospice House provide round the clock, state of the art care for individuals in a beautiful home-like setting. Langdale Hospice House is licensed to care for 16 patients. One larger room can accommodate 2 related patients or a pediatric patient. Nestled in a quiet, pine-filled neighborhood on Pineview Drive in Valdosta, Langdale Hospice House greatly enhances the ability of Hospice of South Georgia to provide a more comprehensive spectrum of services for hospice patients and their families.
The Hospice House is the first of its kind in the community. Our goals are to provide a place where patients will feel comfort, security, a positive quality of life, and room for visitors to feel welcome. The design of the Hospice House was intended to avoid an institutional feel. Lots of windows and sun-rooms allow for natural lighting and the center of the House is just like the center of our homes, with a living room, fireplace, kitchen and dining room. There is also a library and a chapel, as well as a playroom for children. Our Hospice House is a facility owned by Hospice of South Georgia.
No other orgaization is contracted to use our hospice care center.
Hospice of South Georgia patients have priority over any other, and if one would like to use the hospice house, you must transfer to Hospice of South Georgia's care.
