McCarty Street signal pole removal affecting traffic Monday

SANDERSVILLE - The ongoing $1.67 million contract for Washington County area signal upgrades requires a lane closure at the State Route 15 and McCarty Street intersection Monday morning.

Moye Electric Company will be locating utilities and working to remove the existing center metal signal pole on W. McCarty Street at the main highway. Work will not begin until 9 a.m. GDOT will mitigate traffic delays as much as possible during peak times.

The overall project includes traffic signalization updates using the latest pedestrian facility improvements to include countdown pedestrian signals, ADA wheelchair ramps and crosswalk striping. Five locations are included in the scope.
  • State Route (SR) 15 @ the Fall Line Freeway (FLF)
  • FLF @ Linton Road
  • FLF @ Deepstep Road
  • SR 15 @ McCarty Street
  • SR 15 @ Adams Street
Existing strain poles and vehicle detection will be replaced. Cellular 4G modems will be installed at each intersection, allowing these intersections to be monitored and controlled via a remote location as necessary. No additional lanes will be added during this project.

Other work will include the realignment to SR 15 at McCarty Street, removal of the striped island and signal pole and restriping of the pedestrian crosswalk. Also, additional pavement was required in the FLF median to accommodate a pedestrian crosswalk.

Official completion is listed as July 31, 2020.

Deadline to order is January 30th by 12 PM.
