Chamber member hosts Monarch Butterfly Release This Saturday

The 8th annual Monarch Release, hosted by The Butterfly House will take place on September 25th starting at 12:30 PM. This is a free event open to the public.

The Monarch population has dramatically decreased due to last years' harsh winter. Prior year’s preparation for the Monarch Release included catching and raising hundreds of Monarch butterflies that were then tagged and released at this event. This year has been challenging and we have been unable to catch and raise adequate quantities of Monarch butterflies for this month's release. These results are due to the fungus that has affected Monarch butterflies all over Northwest Ohio. This fungus inhibits proper development during the metamorphosis stages preventing the butterfly to reach full maturity.

Despite these unfortunate circumstances, we plan to continue having the annual Monarch Butterfly Release. Thequantity of butterflies released this month will be smaller than that of prior years. To offer additional entertainment, we will provide face painters and dancers from the Toledo School of Arts. Guest speaker Tom Carr will also provide an educational presentation on Monarch Butterflies. The Butterfly House will be open standard hours 10 am - 5 pm, normal rates apply.
