1099 Repeal, Medical Liability Bills Advance

US CHAMBER FREE ENTERPRISE MAGAZINE

Bills to repeal an onerous reporting mandate and reform the medical liability system each moved one step closer to a full vote after passing out of their respective House committees. The U.S. Chamber supports both bills.

The House Ways and Means Committee unanimously approved a bill to repeal a health care reform law requirement that employers submit 1099 statements for all business cash purchases of over $600. The measure, HR 4, now goes to the full House.
A similar proposal passed the Senate this month with strong bipartisan support as an amendment to a bill authorizing funds for the Federal Aviation Administration. In a February 16 letter, the U.S. Chamber called on the committee to repeal the onerous paperwork burdens imposed on business by the ill-conceived expanded information reporting mandate. “When the United States is depending on the small business community to generate jobs and grow the economy, lawmakers are diverting their precious time and resources to collecting volumes of information and filling out mounds of new paperwork for the government.”
