Operation Evergreen

We would like to thank our community for donating a large amount of Christmas ornaments and cards. These items along with 30 Christmas Trees were delivered to Kuwait this past weekend by Fed Ex.  We would also like to thank Fed Ex for their support for shipping trees to our military bases throughout the world. Their annual cost exceeds $1,000,000.

Trees for Troops
The National Trees for Troops program has begun and our farm is excited to participate again this year. Since 2005, the National Christmas Tree Association has provided 83, 957 Christmas trees to over 60 military bases in the USA and overseas. In 2011, we hope to top 100,000 Christmas Trees. To do that, we need to ship 16,043 trees to reach our goal.

Now thru Dec. 5th, individuals can buy a tree for $50 or make smaller contributions that will be applied towards a tree. Trees will be packed and shipped on December 6th to our troops at Fort Polk, LA. Please feel free to write a note or Christmas card, and we will attach it to the tree.

Year-End Tax Planning for Businesses

Purchase New Business Equipment
Section 179 Expensing. Business should take advantage of Section 179 expensing this year for a couple of reasons. First, is that starting in tax year 2010 and continuing into tax year 2011, the maximum Section 179 expense deduction for equipment purchases increased to $500,000 ($535,000 for qualified enterprise zone property) and the bonus depreciation increased to 100% for qualified property. Beginning in tax year 2012 however, the Section 179 deduction is scheduled to drop to $125,000 and the bonus depreciation to be reduced to 50 percent and then be phased out completely.
