About Us

Aware Central Texas

Originally established in 1986 under the name Family Outreach of Bell County, Aware Central Texas emerged as the volunteer branch of Child Protective Services with a mission to combat child abuse and neglect within vulnerable families. However, in 2003, a change in funding from the Texas Legislature resulted in the closure of most centers, dwindling from 34 to merely 10, leaving Central Texas with only one remaining.

In 2006, a new era began with the inception of Aware Central Texas. While no longer affiliated with Family Outreach Services, the organization continues the legacy of compassion, mentorship, and proactive measures against child abuse and neglect. Recognized nationally as a Child Abuse Prevention Center (CAP Center) by the National Exchange Foundation, Aware secured accreditation based on research-backed methodologies. It stands as the sole agency in the region singularly dedicated to prevention and is among only three CAP Centers statewide.

Aware firmly believes in the power of education as the cornerstone of prevention, aiming to combat the alarmingly high rates of child abuse, neglect, and family violence prevalent in the area.
