The Highland Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the highly coveted Business Person of the Year Award, Bob Hardy Citizen of the Year Award, Bill Pierce Chamber Member of the Year Award and the Homer Poss Lifetime Achievement Award. Winners will be announced and celebrated at the combined Highland Chamber Awards and Fundraiser night on March 30, 2019.   Nomination Form 

Homer Poss Lifetime Achievement Award 
Presented to an individual who has made a significant positive impact on the Highland community through his or her past achievements over a long period of time and who has enhanced the quality of life for Highland area residents.  This award will not necessarily be presented each year, but only when the selection committee feels there is a need to honor a special Highland contributor.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Announces Pre-Registration Dates for 2019 Spring Health Fair

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland will host their spring health fair Tuesday, April 23, from 5:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Highland Hope Church, located at 12846 Daiber Road, Highland, IL. Pre-registration for an appointment will only take place in person, in the main lobby of the Hospital and on the dates listed below. Walk-in appointments are available from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for those who do not pre-register.

Highland Arts Council Hosts
Fall in Love with ART

The Highland Arts Council presents Fall in LOVE with ART on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Lindendale Park Ballroom in Highland from 7 pm to 10 pm. The purpose of the event is fundraising for the programs supported by Highland Arts Council and the artwork that has been donated to the City of Highland.

The evening features several visual artists demonstrating throughout the evening, Michael Anderson painting the music of the SIUE Jazz Combo. Hors d’oeuvres, complimentary wine and a cash bar will be available as the Silent and Oral Auction presents art-related donations from regional artists, plus tickets to arts-related performances.

Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased from any HAC member, by calling 618-558-0054, or by mailing your check to HAC, PO Box 33, Highland, IL 62249.


State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Counselor Onsite at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland

Beginning February 8, 2019, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland will have a State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counselor onsite the second Friday of each month.  SHIP counselors are trained through the Illinois Department on Aging to provide free education about Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans and prescription drug coverage.  The counselors do not sell insurance products.  Individuals on Medicare and their caregivers can meet with the SHIP counselor to ask questions and learn more about their benefits and other social services available.  Counselors can also assist ...continue


Local Hospitals Collecting Used Hearing Aids

  In recognition of St. Francis de Sales, HSHS St. Joseph’s Breese and Highland and HSHS Holy Family Greenville is hosting a used hearing aid collection drive. Beginning January 24 through February 28, used hearing aids can be dropped off in designated boxes located in the front lobby of all three local hospitals.  The Audiology Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese and the Rehabilitation Department in Highland are also collection sites.

Used hearing aids collected will be donated to the Illinois Lions Hearing Aid Bank through the local Lions Clubs in Highland and Breese. Friday Evening Retreat Series

 

The Friday evening retreats will be on Fridays, Feb. 8, Feb. 15, Feb. 22 and March 1. Time is from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.  Retreat evenings will involve guided meditations, journal writing bring your own journal and writing utensil), gentle yoga practice, singing bowls/music and breathing techniques. Tea will also be provided by Highland Tea Co. during each class. Classes will be taught by Sharon Schmitz (200 Hr Certified Yoga Instructor)
