Flint River Habitat: Part of a Growing Family...
We are the local affiliate of the Habitat for Humanity International. Founded in 1986, our affiliate has built more than 100 houses in Albany. We work on the same principles as formulated by the Habitat for Humanity International. Our affiliate works in partnership with people needs to eliminate sub-standard housing in Dougherty and Lee Counties.
The International Connection...
Habitat for Humanity was established in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller to eliminate homelessness, and sub-standard housing issues around the world. The international organization is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry with national, regional, and local reach. Its primary focus is making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat defines sub-standard housing as housing in poor physical condition, overcrowded conditions (more than 2 same sex children or boy and girl in one bed room) and dangerous neighborhoods.
Achieving our Objective ...
At Flint River Habitat, we depend on volunteer labor, and tax-deductible donations of money, and materials. We build simple and, decent houses with the help of our homeowners. Our houses are sold to families/individuals at no profit, and financed with affordable, no interest loans. The homeowner's monthly mortgage payments are then recycled into a fund that is used to continue our building efforts. It is a continuous cycle of investment, labor, reward, and construction.
