5/5/2024 | It's a matter of time. 50 years to be exact. And in that time Los Lobos have created an unprecedented body of work, a legacy of greatness. The numbers are staggering: 100+ gigs a year for five decades running, crossing millions of miles to rock millions of fans. And that's just at the live shows. In between they've recorded 17 studio albums, 7 live LPs, 3 compilations, 2 EPs, 2 DVDs, and contributed 40+ guest appearances on their friends' recordings - all garnering 5 Grammys, an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction, the ALMA Richie Valens Pioneer Award, NEA and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Honors, Congressional recognitions, plus countless "Keys to the City" and "Los Lobos Day" celebrations. But beyond all the hoopla and applause is the tremendous heart. Five blood brothers who have dedicated their off-stage time to helping others, working for peace and justice, penning some of the most literate and important music of their time, transforming the hard cries from the East L.A. barrio into songs of hope, tales of common folk finding ways to endure. The young wolves were weaned on late-night radio's soul, R&B, and doo-wop, cured through the African-American currents of the blues, jazz, and rock 'n' roll. As proud Chicanos, their songs have always glistened with the distillation from their Mexican and Latin American roots-nourished by Norteña and rancheras, buoyed by bolero and cumbias, soaring on the rhythms of son huasteco and son jarocho. Los Lobos have helped spread the rich diversity of cultures across every continent, throughout the global community. Kids in Antwerp now know about Aztlán. Residents of Luxor and Ghana are crooning Lalo Guerrero. People from Laos and Bulgaria are belting "La Bamba" - all thanks to The Wolves as cultural ambassadors. Talk about a living legacy. Talk about a productive half century. And in the true rebel spirit, they did it all on their own terms, against formula. For the ages. To our delight. Quite simply, they are one of the tightest, one of the best, one of the most prolific bands ever. And, amazingly, with the original founding members as the pack the entire time. Unprecedented. As their liner notes put it, quite simply: "Los Lobos still are David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano, Steve Berlin." Tickets are $55, $60, $65 and $70 plus applicable online/phone ticketing fee. This fee is waived when tickets are purchased at Café at 22 & Vine inside Walker's Bluff Casino Resort®. All ages are welcome. Doors will open one hour prior to showtime. Please note, when purchasing tickets to our events, we do not recommend using a third party resale site. Tickets may be purchased directly from our website or in person at Café at 22 & Vine. Must be 21 or older to gamble. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1.800.GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537). more info...

5/18/2024 | Don’t miss out on a special fundraiser for the SIU Cancer Institute and Hospice of Southern Illinois, provided by Aur Beck of AES Solar. To honor his father and in his Native American culture, he is cutting his hair for the third time in his life to honor their spirit and the generosity of the Marion Community. Join us this Saturday at 3 pm at Hospice of Southern Illinois for this special presentation. We’re bringing scissors! To support: https://sihf.ejoinme.org/AHF2023 The Event Purpose - From Aur: A way to show respect and honor through the Native American culture of giving In the 7th year of my dad’s death I am finally being able to show respect and honor through the Native American culture of giving by sacrificing the symbol of my strength; my hair. In my native culture we have long hair and only cut it in times of great emotional upheaval. I have cut my hair only 3 times in my life; once when I was a kid and didn't know any better, when my grandfather died and when my dad suddenly died of cancer. I want to raise a minimum of $25,000 ( 977 an inch ) or 30k to shave for SIH Cancer Institute and Hospice of Southern Illinois. who helped us tremendously through the death process. My story started when I was 9 months old, my grandfather in Cherokee NC told my dad to walk the Trail of Tears so my parents taking me in a backpack and supplies on a horse started the journey of traveling 14,000 recorded miles by horse through 34 states as I grew up. Growing up learning of people's spirit of generosity and the Native American culture of giving made me join Rotary (whose motto is "Service Above Self") later in life. It always amazes me how seemingly small insignificant actions can through the power of people add up to massive change more info...

5/23/2024 | To better meet state mandates surrounding sexual harassment training and build stronger workplace environments, we are hosting quarterly training for 2024. Attendees will take part in a general hour-long training session and receive a certificate of completion for their employee file. Employees in the restaurant industry can take advantage of additional training and certification. Timeline
Sexual Training is Mandatory? Yes, it is. Formerly Senate Bill 75, Public Act 101-0221 was signed into law by Governor Pritzker in August 2019. Under this Act, Illinois employers are required to train employees on sexual harassment prevention by December 31, 2020, and on an annual basis thereafter. This requirement applies to all employers with employees working in this State. Employers must either develop their own sexual harassment prevention training program that equals or exceeds the minimum standards for sexual harassment prevention training outlined in Section 2-109(B) of the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA), or they may use the model training provided by the IDHR. In addition to providing the sexual harassment prevention training described above, restaurants and bars are required to provide supplemental sexual harassment prevention training that complies with Section 2-110 of the IHRA. Illinois restaurants and bars must either develop their own supplemental training or utilize the model training provided by the IDHR. The IDHR's supplemental training model for restaurants and bars is forthcoming.
