Hours of Operation
Our season runs from Sept. 15--Oct. 31. We're open every day, 9-6.About Us
In 1859, McDonald immigrants from Scotland settled in East Central Illinois and purchased ground to begin their new lives. Today, 152 years later, the evolution and stewardship of that same land continues. From the heritage of growing numerous grains, row crops and livestock, a new enterprise grew. In 1977, Bruce and Mary Beth (McDonald) Condill added a few pumpkin seeds to their children’s garden, and over the next 32 years a cucurbit business grew to 63 acres of pumpkins, squash and gourds, involvement in commercial pumpkin production and the preservation and development of heirloom and rare cucurbit seeds.
Bruce and Mary Beth’s three sons, Kit, Mac and Buck have participated in every part of this adventure. Their creative ideas and passionate interest in education, plants and cucurbits have helped the farm evolve into an agritourism destination, a botanical showcase and an educational center for anyone interested in cucurbits. The sons’ wives, Shana, Emily and Ginny have contributed ideas, and continue to work in any and all phases of the operation. Even the grandchildren are beginning to find ways to participate. The Great Pumpkin Patch is definitely a family business and a work of love.
The Great Pumpkin Patch is open to the public from September 15 through October 31. Preparations are made year-round to make the farm experience one in which the guests can reconnect with the land and celebrate the beauty of nature. It is hoped that through the passion of our family, guests can be inspired to learn new things and become better stewards of all things around us.
Pick your own produce or select from our tables. We grow over 300 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds for your cooking and baking pleasure, as well as for your indoor and outdoor decorating delight. We also offer Indian corn, garden mums, corn stalks and straw bales (large and small).
