The goal of the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber's Military Affairs Council (MAC) is to advance the pro-business climate in the area through military affairs initiatives, and to maintain and enhance the business community's relationship with Fort Leavenworth.

The Military Affairs Council works to grow and sustain not only Fort Leavenworth, but other Department of Defense operations in the area.  The MAC functions as a liaison between the local military and business communities, implementing programs which provide greater interaction between Chamber members and DOD/military personnel.  The MAC hosts various events throughout the year that help to further our community relationships and honor military service.

MAC Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.

Military Affairs Council Meetings are open only to members of the Chamber of Commerce (or representatives thereof) as well as any members of military leadership.

The late political activist and U.S. congressman John Lewis coined the phrase "good trouble" to describe his civil disobedience in the 1960s. Others who did not share his vision, considered his actions as merely "disturbing the peace." This talk seeks to answer what role have the humanities played in times of crisis, contentiousness and incredible disagreement by looking at selected works of American leaders and how they frame today's perspectives and debates about racism.
Presented by John Edgar Tidwell, professor emeritus of English at the University of Kansas.
Sponsored by Humanities Kansas.
This program is part of the Library's "Informed Citizen" series, presentations designed to help people understand current topics affecting our society.

The Swallowtails are an independent acoustic band experimenting in the rock/pop genres while performing on what are traditionally folk/classical instruments, creating a unique sound all their own. Featuring Miki P on Guitar/Vocals and Rachel Lovelace on Bassoon/Vocals, the duo’s original music out of Kansas City is migrating throughout the Midwest and beyond.
Formed in 2018, The Swallowtails is inspired by the evolution of the butterfly: cyclically reinventing itself to spread its wings. Coming from a wide array of musical backgrounds, they have an idiomatic approach to genre, being able to incorporate influences from a wide spanning array of popular and classic music into their own songs. The Swallowtails are artists committed to creating music that is honest, heartfelt, and reflective of who they are, to connect with listeners through recorded work and live performances.

As Kansas moved towards statehood, four constitutions were proposed. The second one, the Lecompton Constitution, was a document drafted and signed in 1857 in the Territorial Capital of Kansas: Lecompton. This document was pro-slavery.
Paul Bahnmaier, President of the Lecompton Historical Society, will share the history of the Lecompton Constitution and how voters rejected it making Kansas a free state.
