The American West has inspired artists for centuries with its natural beauty and majestic landscapes. In the 20th century, Georgia O’Keeffe reveals a unique vision of the Southwest in her iconic paintings of landscapes, nature and found objects. Photographer Ansel Adams sets a new standard for the art of black and white photography in his majestic landscapes. Richard Diebenkorn and Ed Ruscha will re-imagine Southern California in their modern interpretations of bold color and iconic imagery as they continue to explore the Western panorama. In a wide range of visual images, profiles of the artists, and historical context, this lecture will explore the artists, their work, and their enduring influence on the art of the West.

Art Lecturer Presenter Bob Potter is a graduate of Syracuse University's School of Visual and Performing Arts. He started his career as an art director at Scholastic Magazines and later marketing executive for Time Warner, National Geographic and later as a corporate development officer for the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. He helped create an innovative art therapy program for Save The Children, launched a professional development program for art students at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and is a docent at the Yale Center for British Art. He and his wife Jeanne, who is a master watercolor artist and teacher, live in Old Lyme, CT. `

This eight-week support group will begin on Monday, February 12th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Women & Family Life Center's Carriage House.

Life After Loss is for anyone who has experienced loss and is still working through their grief. The support group, led by Dr. Margo Merin, DSW, will guide participants in written and shared discussions on dealing with life after loss. Individuals will learn about types of grief, coping skills, self-care and self-love suggestions. Participants will also be introduced to the concept of listening to one's "inner self," working through the many emotions of loss, what the future will look like, and much more. Dr. Merin will facilitate several exercises and conversations during the support group.

Dr. Merin said, "Participants will be talking about how they view their identity as an individual and how they incorporate who they are into a life that has meaning and purpose, despite the death of the individual - learning to appreciate their individuality while, at the same time, never having to forget or erase meaningful memories."
